Three Months On: Pakistan and India Claims Over ‘Operation Sandur’ and May Clash

Pakistan and India: Statements Continue Months After the May Clash

Even three months after the May clash between Pakistan and India, the exchange of statements from the heads of the two countries’ armed forces shows no signs of stopping.

Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has stated that Operation Sandur, carried out in Pakistani territory following the Pahalgam attack, was not a conventional military mission. Comparing it to a game of chess, he remarked:

“We didn’t know what the enemy’s next move would be.”

He made these remarks on August 4 during a speech at IIT Madras titled Operation Sandur: A New Chapter in India’s Fight Against Terrorism. The video of the speech was released recently on the Indian Army’s YouTube channel.

Meanwhile, Indian Air Force Chief A.P. Singh claimed that during the May conflict, India shot down six Pakistani aircraft. Pakistan’s Defence Minister, however, denied this, calling the statement baseless.

The tensions intensified after an attack on tourists in Pahalgam, located in Indian-administered Kashmir. Following the incident, India claimed to have targeted militant hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. In response, Pakistan claimed to have shot down several Indian aircraft, including Rafale jets.
