What is pregnancy?

Pregnancy

It is the term used for the period in which a fetus develops inside a womb. It lasts about 40 weeks. The duration is measured from the last menstrual period to the time of delivery. This duration of pregnancy to delivery is divided into three phases, which are called Trimesters.

First Trimester:

First Trimester is the beginning phase of pregnancy. It starts on the last period before pregnancy and ends on the 13th week. Changes both in mother and baby start rapidly in this stage.

Second Trimester:

This stage starts from week 13 to 28, or months 4,5, and 6. It’s the middle phase of pregnancy. In this stage, the baby grows larger and stronger and many women begin showing larger bellies. Most women find that the second trimester is a lot easier than the first, but it's still important to be informed about your pregnancy during the second Trimester. During the second trimester of pregnancy, symptoms that you may have experienced during the trimester begin to improve.

Third Trimester:

The last stage begins at 29 weeks and ends on baby delivery. During this stage, your baby grows and develops. The baby starts changing its position to get ready for birth. By the end of the stage, the baby size is between 19 and 21 inches long and weighs between 3 to 4 kg. The baby itself turns its head down to get ready for the delivery.

Other changes and activities of the baby during the last trimester are the following:

·         Smile

·         Start sucking on its thumb

·         Hear

·         Cry

·         Open its eyes and start seeing

HCG Human chorionic gonadotropin is made in a woman’s placenta after ova fertilization in the uterus. This hormone is made only during pregnancy. The test is normally done after a missed period or after 21 days of sexual intercourse.

Ovulation:

Ovulation is the process in which a mature egg is released from the ovary. The egg then moves down the fallopian tube and stays there for up to 24 hours for the purpose of fertilization. It usually happens 2 weeks before the next period begins. The process can be varied from month to month. During this phase, before 3 to 5 days or on the day of ovulation, the chances of pregnancy are more than other days.

Sex too early or after the ovulation period, a woman will no longer be able to get pregnant because the egg will no more in the fallopian tube.
